“I am very pleased to announce this funding as I approached Minister Delahunty about this project last December. Mr Robert Mathieson, President of the Tatura RSL Sub-branch had given pictures of the project to me which I was able to show to the Minister along with a letter supporting their application.”

Shepparton District Shares in $45 million Road Funding – Powell

 Wednesday, January 23, 2013

Sections of the Midland Hwy near Tatura and Cosgrove South, and a section of the Goulburn Valley Hwy south of Shepparton will be resealed thanks to State Government funding, State Member for Shepparton Jeanette Powell announced today.

Mrs Powell said $213,000 would be spent from the Government’s $45 million repair and restore package to reseal these locations which are scheduled for completion in February 2013.

“These works will ensure these sections of road in the Goulburn Valley will be safe," Mrs Powell said.

“To achieve the best result, it is preferred to reseal during dry and warm weather, therefore the sealing works will be completed during summer when the weather is more suitable.”

The $45 million package includes $20 million for repair works which will enable VicRoads to fix targeted potholes and worn roads by adding a new surface to the roads. This will not only improve ride quality and consistency, but will waterproof the pavement and protect it against future damage.

The works form part of the ongoing road maintenance program in the North Eastern Region.

“Regular maintenance and early intervention through the resealing of arterial roads improves the durability of roads and helps minimise long term costs and associated inconvenience to all road users,” Mrs Powell said.

“The works announced today are another example of the Victorian Coalition Government’s commitment to maintaining and preserving road infrastructure on major freight and commuter routes throughout Victoria.

“Drivers should note that traffic management and speed restrictions will be in place for the safety of motorists and work crew, so there may be minor delays while the work is being completed.”

Three Shepparton Men’s Sheds share in government funding

 Thursday, January 17, 2013

Three men’s sheds in the Shepparton district have received Victorian Government funds to improve their facilities, Member for Shepparton Jeanette Powell announced today.

Mrs Powell said the local recipient organisations are:

o Mooroopna Men’s Shed – $14 535 for an extension on two sides to the existing shed for expanded space to accommodate growing numbers and activities
o Shepparton Village Men’s Shed – $12 409 to Shepparton Retirement Villages Inc for one hydronic heating and five inverter cooling systems
o Tatura Men’s Shed (Ross Street) – $30 000 for an extension to its existing shed and renovation of its existing disabled toilet to comply with OHS standards.

In line with the guidelines for the Coalition Government’s Strengthening Men’s Sheds Program, the local organisations have also committed money to their projects.

“I’m delighted these three local men’s sheds were successful in their funding applications,” Mrs Powell said.

“I’ve had a long association with all of these men’s sheds, and I wrote to Community Services Minister Mary Wooldridge about Shepparton Village and Tatura Men’s Sheds to support their applications.”

“Shepparton Villages, which shares its men’s shed with community groups in the area, has a range of fantastic programs for men.

“But given the age, disabilities, medical issues and frailty of many of the residents, they require a controlled temperature.

“There’ve been days when it’s been too hot or cold for them to leave the residential aged care facility in which they live to attend an activity at the Men’s Shed building.

“I am sure these residents will be delighted that this will no longer be an issue,” Mrs Powell said.

Mrs Powell said the extension to the Tatura Men’s Shed would help members to continue to use their skills to help the community with their work on an array of different projects.

“These recipients, along with the Mooroopna Men’s Shed which also does wonderful work for the community, are very worthy of the funding they have received.”

$200,000 to help expand Tatura Abattoir production

 Friday, December 07, 2012

Member for Shepparton Jeanette Powell has announced $200,000 in funding from the Victorian Coalition Government to support a major expansion of operations at the Tatura Abattoir.

Representing Deputy Premier and Minister for Regional and Rural Development, Peter Ryan, Mrs Powell said the Tatura Abattoir Expansion Sewage Pump Station and Rising Main Project would allow increased production and deliver significant economic benefits for the region.

“Over the next five years the company is investing $5 million to increase its capacity from processing 9,000 lambs per week to 12,500 per week for the Australian market,” Mrs Powell said.

"A key part of the expansion project will be the construction of a new sewer pump station adjacent to the facility, a 1,600 metre sewer main and the establishment of a new connection to an existing sewer main which discharges to the Wastewater Management Facility (WMF).

“The improvements to the town’s sewer infrastructure will not only support the abattoir’s expansion, they will also help improve odour amenity within the township by redirecting the trade waste flows directly to the Tatura WMF and may even support the expansion of other local industries by making additional flow capacity within the urban sewer system available.”

Mrs Powell the Coalition Government funding of $200,000 for the project would be provided to Goulburn Valley Water through the $1 billion Regional Growth Fund.

“An important objective of the Regional Growth Fund is to improve the productive potential of regional Victoria, by strengthening industries, supporting and growing local economies,” Mrs Powell said.

“Through the Economic Infrastructure Program of the Regional Growth Fund the Coalition Government has announced $70 million in Infrastructure grants for 31 projects across Victoria.”

Mr Ryan said over 3,200 direct jobs and 3,650 indirect jobs had been created through the Coalition Government’s $1 billion Regional Growth Fund which was designed to support the continued economic development of regional Victoria.

“The Victorian Coalition Government is committed to investing in infrastructure and creating jobs, while planning and developing strong and sustainable local economies.

“The Government’s commitment was about strengthening local communities by building networks and creating opportunities, delivering growth, employment and improved facilities,” Mr Ryan said.

Funds for community education in Tatura

 Friday, May 04, 2012

Residents of Tatura will be better placed to enjoy local educational opportunities thanks to a $15,000 Victorian Coalition Government grant provided to the Tatura Community House (TCH), Member for Shepparton Jeanette Powell said today.

Mrs Powell said funding has been provided under the government’s Adult, Community and Further Education (ACFE) Board Capacity and Innovation Fund.

“This will enable the Tatura Community House to build its capacity as a ‘Learn Local’ organisation in Tatura and surrounding communities,” Mrs Powell said.

“Many residents in Tatura and district are not currently involved with educational opportunities due to the cost and time of travelling to venues.

“An important focus of the project will include engaging local businesses and community members to promote the services of the Tatura Community House.

“This will allow TCH to expand its services, improve efficiency and increase the participation rate and achievement levels of local learners.

“The Tatura Community House will run training programs in Tatura, providing access in a local setting as well as increasing uptake and commencement of classes due to the proximity of the centre.”

The Capacity and Innovation Fund is an initiative that aims to encourage innovation within adult education and support a sector of the Victorian education system that already does vital work supporting adult learners.

“As a knowledge driven economy, Victoria increasingly needs a workforce with higher levels of education and skills,” Mrs Powell said.

“Through these funds, the Tatura Community House will be able to enhance the attainment of skills and qualifications for many in the district.

“The Victorian Coalition Government is proud to support communities across the state through programs such as this which enable individuals to improve their skills and make the most of opportunities that might otherwise not be available,” Mrs Powell said.

Funds to boost technology skills in Tatura

 Thursday, March 22, 2012

Residents of Tatura will be better placed to access information and communication technology opportunities thanks to a $25,000 Victorian Coalition Government grant provided to the Tatura Community House, Member for Shepparton Jeanette Powell said today.

Mrs Powell said funding has been provided under the government’s Community Information and Communication (ICT) Technology Skills Grants program.

“The Tatura Community House will purchase 10 new computers and a multi-function printer to provide ICT access and training opportunities to those in the community who do not have ready access to this technology,” Mrs Powell said.

“Many residents in Tatura and district are not currently involved with computer training due to the cost and time of travelling to venues, relevance of courses and the cancellation of courses due to small numbers.

“The Tatura Community House will run training programs in Tatura, providing access in a local setting as well as increasing uptake and commencement of classes due to the proximity of the centre,” Mrs Powell said.

Deputy Premier and Minister for Regional and Rural Development Peter Ryan said the Community ICT Skills Grants program supported community organisations to increase and develop the use of information and communication technology.

“It is particularly important in assisting those groups within the community who have been traditionally unable to access the benefits of computer technology,” Mr Ryan said.

“Through this program, senior citizens, people with a disability, migrant and refugee communities and Victorians living in remote and isolated locations are being encouraged to get online and develop their skills and knowledge using computers and the internet.

“Effective use of technology not only promotes increased independence, it also provides another setting for social interaction and expands opportunities for employment and education.

“The Victorian Coalition Government is proud to support communities across the state through programs such as this which enable individuals to access resources and make the most of opportunities that might otherwise not be available,” Mr Ryan said.

State Government gives $50,000 for Lake Bartlett Upgrade

 Friday, August 12, 2011

Tatura’s Lake Bartlett will be upgraded and beautified with the help of a $50,000 Victorian Government grant, State Member for Shepparton Jeanette Powell said today.

The money fulfils an election promise Mrs Powell made prior to the Coalition’s election victory last year.

“The money will be provided to Greater Shepparton City Council to allow the council to act on community concerns and improve access to the water for recreational activities and the safety and visual amenity of the area,” Mrs Powell said.

“Lake Bartlett is a very important community asset for the Tatura community.

“After it was transformed into a wetland in stage 1 of Tatura’s Community Plan between 2002 and 2006, residents expressed concern about the restriction in access to the water for recreational purposes such as fishing and boating.

“Stage 2 of the plan has not been completed to date, but with our government contributing $50,000, this work will be able to be completed and help transform Lake Bartlett.

“This will be a significant community asset which all members of the Tatura community and visitors to the district can enjoy,” Mrs Powell said.

 Friday, July 01, 2011

Member for Shepparton, Jeanette Powell today presented the Tatura & District Historical Society with a $3000 grant from the Victorian Coalition Government’s Local History Grants Program.

Mrs Powell said the Local History Grants help local communities record and preserve their local stories allowing them to be shared with future generations

“The Tatura Historical Society will use the funds to preserve its valuable collection through the scanning and digitising of its photos and records, bringing it into the 21st Century,” Mrs Powell said.

“The Society has a unique archive of records, photos and memorabilia which covers the history of irrigation in the area, local and family histories since white settlement and the prisoner of war and internment camps established during World War 11.

“It is a valuable source of research material for academics, school students and families and by scanning and digitising the records it will allow worldwide access to the collection.

“This grant will ensure the many amazing stories of our past held at Tatura are preserved and able to be shared with the community.”

“It also recognises and celebrates the valuable contribution made by the volunteers of the Tatura Historical Society in preserving our local history and heritage.

“They hold a wealth of stories which cover the rich and diverse history of our great region which will be preserved and eventually available for worldwide access,” Mrs Powell said.

COALITION GOVERNMENT WILL COMMIT $50,000 FOR LAKE BARTLETT REDEVELOPMENT - POWELL

A Liberal Nationals Government will commit $50,000 to assist with the redevelopment of Lake Bartlett at Tatura, State Member for Shepparton Jeanette Powell announced today.
Mrs Powell said whilst the lake has been transformed into a significant wetland, concerns have consistently been expressed by members of the Tatura community about access, safety and the visual amenity of Lake Bartlett.
“This funding will assist the Greater Shepparton City Council as it is already committed to a risk assessment in relation to the safety of the lake,” Mrs Powell said.
“It will allow the Council to act on community concerns and improve access to the water for recreational activities and the safety and visual amenity of the area.
“Lake Bartlett is a very important community resource for the Tatura community.
“Since being transformed into a wetland in stage 1 of a plan between 2002 and 2006, residents have expressed concern about the restriction in access to the water for recreational purposes such as fishing and boating.
“Stage 2 of the plan has never been completed and residents are angry at the lake’s deterioration and condition as it is unsuitable for recreational activities.
“Greater Shepparton City Council has committed $7,000 to review the community concerns in relation to the safety of the lake and our funding will allow council to implement stage 2 of the plan.
“This will restore the balance between recreational use and environmental performance.
